Values Assembly - Love: Love is patient...

(2nd in a series of values assemblies linked to love using a simplified version of 1 Corinthians 13 - The Love Chapter)

Love is Patient (inspired by http://theskyisthelimit.se/the-chinese-bamboo-story-a-lesson-in-patience/ though video link no longer working..)

1. Use picture prompt and question to start children thinking as they come in (see powerpoint attached)

2. Tell the story of the patience needed to grow bamboo. 4 years of care apparently needed before shoots appear. Then a year of massive growth takes over. What patience the farmer needs!

3. Illustrate the amazing growth of bamboo using this clip:


4. Make the link with the parable story that Jesus told about the growth of the mustard seed. There is a lovely homemade animation to go with it:


5. Use the final 'so what?' question to challenge children to put the value into action: "If you love someone, you are patient with them. Let them grow!"
