Rules - Script 2
« on: January 28, 2013, 10:03:27 AM »
Theme:
That rules protect us and prevent damage. That Jesus gave us positive rules.

Plan:
INTRO… The Naked Chef

Time: 5 minutes
Materials: Bread, baked beans, butter, broken toaster, recipe book
Aim: To look at why rules or guidelines make a difference

Leader’s note: This activity could be messy. It is advisable to put newspaper on the floor before you begin, and to have an old towel to hand, to clean up afterwards. It might also be worth letting the teacher in charge of the assembly know what you have planned.

Activity

•   Introduce yourself and your team and say that today’s assembly is about rules. But tell the assembly that before you get into, you thought that it was time that they learnt how to cook, so you thought that you would start with a simple dish of beans on toast.
•   Produce a recipe book and then, after a little thought, throw it away, saying that you are sure you can do it all yourself.
•   Say that there are three basic ingredients; bread, butter and beans.
•   Show them the bread and say that normally you would toast things in the oven, but you know that toasters are incredibly popular so you’ll do it all in the toaster.
•   Shove the bread into the toaster in as untidy a way as possible.
•   Then say you always like your butter to melt into the toast. Take a dollop of butter and smear it over the bread in the toaster.
•   Finally, open the beans and add them to the mess in the toaster.
•   If you can engineer a pretend explosion, for example popping a small balloon filled with flour and inflated, so much the better.
