Sportsmanship - Mitchell Marcus sinks one basket
« on: December 31, 2013, 07:50:56 AM »
A high school basketball team in El Paso, Texas, has reminded us that the best moments in sports are not about the victories or the losses.
They're about those little heroic, emotional moments that showcase the best in all of us — those spontaneous gestures of kindness that can make us cheer and cry at the same time.
This is the story about 18-year-old Mitchell Marcus, a developmentally disabled student who loved basketball so much that his Coronado T-Birds team named him its general manager.
His job was to fetch water for the players and pick up loose balls.
In the last game of the regular season, the team had a special plan for Marcus.
The coach, Peter Morales, told Marcus he would be suiting up for the game against Franklin High.
What the coach didn't tell Marcus was that he was going to get in the game, even if it meant costing the team the victory.
