Iceland is an European island country just south of the Arctic Circle in the North Atlantic Ocean.

The capital city is Reykjavik.

Iceland is sometimes called the Land of the Frost and Fire because large glaciers are close beside hot springs, geysers and volcanoes. It is also a land of the midnight sun, because it is light for 24 hours a day in June but only 4-6 hours a day during two months in the winter.

Iceland is famous for its hot springs, geysers, active volcanoes and and dramatic scenery.

Interesting facts about Iceland

Iceland was formed from volcanic activity. Lava fields cover much of the land
Mount Hekla in Iceland is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and was long believed by many to be the entrance to Hell – hence the phrase "What the Heck?"
Hot water is pumped from under the ground to supply much of the country's heating
The English word geyser comes from Icelandic. Geysir is the name of a famous geyser in Iceland
The Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland was very active in March and April of 2010 and still is active.
Fish and fish products are Iceland's most important revenue
In Icelandic Christmas folklore there are 13 Santa Clauses!
